Liverpool fans tell players to keep hands off Champions League trophy after Dimitri Payet ‘jinxes’ Marseille

Liverpool supporters are ordering their players to avoid touching the Champions League trophy before their final against Real Madrid.

Dimitri Payet prematurely got his hands on the Europa League trophy in the moments leading up to Marseille’s defeat on Wednesday night and Reds fans are now terrified there’s a curse.

Just half an hour after Payet grabbed the trophy, the Frenchman was forced from the field in tears and his hopes of a World Cup place are in tatters.

The former West Ham star was struggling with a thigh strain before kick-off but attempted to play through the pain before his substitution.

Goals from Antoine Griezmann either side of the break and a third from Gabi in the 89th minute sealed a comfortable victory for Atleti in Lyon.

With Liverpool fans hoping for any possible advantage over Madrid ahead of their showdown on May 26, fans are praying none of Jurgen Klopp’s players ‘jinx’ the side as Payet appeared to.
