Antoine Griezmann will ‘never enter history’ at Barcelona or Manchester United, says Atletico Madrid chief

Antoine Griezmann has been warned a move to Barcelona or Manchester United will ruin his legacy by Atletico Madrid’s chief executive.

Miguel Angel Gil Marin issued the ultimatum to Griezmann after the forward inspired Atletico to Europa League glory on Wednesday night.

Griezmann scored twice in a 3-0 win over Marseille and his performance on the big stage has once again sparked transfer speculation.

United chased Griezmann for much of last year while Barcelona has emerged as the Frenchman’s most likely destination this summer.

But Gil Marin believes Griezmann will regret a move elsewhere. ‘It will depend on his feelings more than anything else,’ he said after the game.

‘If he wants to make history at Atletico Madrid where everything revolves around him, or go to a club where he will never enter history.’

He added: ‘If he decides that he does not want to continue with us, we have to respect his decision. ‘I am not optimistic or pessimistic.

I do not know what will happen, it is not a decision for him to say after the final.’

Griezmann is reportedly keen on a switch to Barcelona, but opted to stay loyal to Atletico last summer when the club was handed a transfer ban.

The 27-year-old enjoyed another excellent season for Atletico with 29 goals and 15 assists in 48 appearances.

Griezmann will demand a hefty transfer fee with Atletico set to collect upwards of £100million.
