'Now insure your LAWNMOWER’ Meddling EU directive

by , in

MEDDLING Eurocrats hell-bent on introducing a new directive requiring ALL vehicles to be insured when driven on private land – including ride-on lawnmowers and golf buggies – has been blasted by Eurosceptic group Get Britain Out.

The European Commission is proposing to amend its Motor Insurance Directive (Directive 2009/103/EC) in an attempt to incorporate a judgement from the European Court of Justice made in 2014.

It would cover all accidents “caused during the normal use of a vehicle for the purpose of transportation, including its use on private properties”.

Get Britain Out has criticised the plan, suggesting it was an unnecessary extra layer of bureaucracy which would swell the coffers of insurance companies at the expense of British taxpayers.

It also pointed out that if adopted, the new rules would appear to be in conflict with the UK Law (Road Traffic Act, 1998).
This stipulates that insurance is only required when vehicles are used on a road.

Jayne Adye, Director of cross-party grassroots campaign Get Britain Out, said: “This proposal is a fantastic example of overzealous EU law-making, which is out of touch with the real world.

“Rules concocted by remote bureaucrats in Brussels are having an adverse effect on the lives of many Britons, burdening them with extra costs and needless paperwork.

“Being forced to comply with these new rules could set British taxpayers back hundreds of pounds!

“This proposal will be music to the ears of insurance companies, who will find themselves with thousands of new customers.

“Clearly enforcing such a rule would require a sinister amount of monitoring from officials – dictating what private citizens chose to get up to on their private property.

“Mandating what people can get up to like this clearly demonstrates a worrying level of control still being exerted by Eurocrats.

“Extending the tentacles of the EU into another corner of our lives like this proposal, undermines the very notion of an Englishman’s home being his castle!
“After we Leave the European Union, our country will no longer be subjected to the whims of frenzied lawmakers who have shown themselves unable to produce coherent legislation.”

Valdis Dombrovskis, the European Commission's Vice-President responsible for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union said: "With today's proposals, we are ensuring that victims of motor vehicle accidents will be better protected in future.

“In addition, when people move across borders and purchase a motor insurance policy in another EU Member State, their claims history will be treated in the same way as those of domestic consumers.

“This is good news for those who move across the EU and for all of us as EU citizens.”

Did Selena Gomez Give a Sly Shout-out to Her Exes in 'Back to You' Music Video?

by , in

Her latest hit “Back to You” is all about being stuck on an ex-boyfriend, and now Selena Gomez‘s fans believe the singer may have slyly referred to her past relationships in her new music video.
The retro-style video features Gomez — sporting bangs and a short bob — leaving a boring party with a love interest to steal a car.
“So where are we going?” asks her blond beau, who bears a slight resemblance to ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, 24. The star then lists several seemingly random destinations: “Italy. France. Canada. Russia. Michigan.”
According to fans, however, the destinations may actually have significant meaning.
After going public with their relationship, Gomez, 26, and her ex-boyfriend The Weeknd, 28, were spotted vacationing in Italy together. The entertainer was also photographed supporting the Canadian star at one of his concerts in France.

Though she could also be referencing The Weeknd with Canada, most fans know better that Bieber grew up in Ontario.
Meanwhile, Gomez previously confirmed she had a short-lived romance with her former collaborator Zedd, 28, who was born in Russia. As for Michigan, the singer may be reaching as far back as 2009, when she dated now 26-year-old Taylor Lautner (who was raised in Grand Rapids).
After Gomez released the song last month, fans immediately speculated that the track was inspired by Bieber.
“Let a couple years water down how I’m feeling about you,” she sings on the opening verse of the track, which is featured on the 13 Reasons Why (Season 2) soundtrack.

Mariah Carey Says Her Son Moroccan, 'Ordered a Dog' Online and Spent '$5,000 on Amazon'

by , in

Legendary songstress Mariah Carey — who recently announced a new Las Vegas summer residency titled “The Butterfly Returns” — dropped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wednesday to talk all things music and parenting, including her son’s digital prowess.
“My son is, like, a technological genius. He ordered a dog the other day. He went with his father [Nick Cannon],” said Carey. “And they called him and they were like, ‘Your dog is ready.’ He’s like, ‘I didn’t order a damn dog.’ ”
“The dog’s been cancelled,” she continues, adding of her son and his twin sister Monroe, “We have dogs, they have pets. They have fish. They have everything they need.”

“I have to control them with the iPads,” Carey explains of her kids. “[Moroccan] charged $5,000 on Amazon. He figures everything out. He’ll be like, ‘Let me do it.’ ”
While the “Honey” singer has to keep a close eye on her youngsters at times (she also helps them with their homework!), they give back by taking after their mama in an adorable way.
“My daughter was like, ‘I really need to get back in the studio,’ ” says Carey with a laugh, revealing that her twins have recorded a song of their own that she wrote, with the working title of “Roc & Roe.”

Jimmy Kimmel asks the questions that’s on everyone’s mind: Will fans of Carey and her sweet blended family ever get to hear the kids’ tune?
“I don’t know. I have to talk it over with Nick and see how he feels about it,” she says. “I would be very angry if he released a song [of the kids’] without asking me. Sorry, Nick.”

Justin Bieber Reportedly Sued For A Fight That Took Place In Cleveland During The 2016 NBA Finals

by , in

Justin Bieber is being sued by the man he got into a scuffle with in 2016.
The 24-year-old singer was caught on camera two years ago when he engaged in a heated confrontation with Tobias Cannon whilst in Cleveland after Game 3 of the 2016 NBA Finals, when Tobias threw a light blow to Justin's head, causing the singer to respond with a punch of his own.
And now, according to TMZ, Tobias is believed to have filed a lawsuit in LA against the 'Sorry' hitmaker, claiming the singer was responsible for injuries Tobias sustained during the brawl.
Tobias' lawsuit comes just over a year after he filed a police report about the altercation, claiming he was trying to settle with Justin, but that the star wasn't co-operating.
As of the time of writing, no further details are known about Tobias' lawsuit, and Justin is not thought to have responded.
Following the scuffle two years ago, Justin took some time out of the spotlight in order to ''get away from it all'' and recollect his thoughts.
A source said at the time: ''Justin has been really feeling the pressure in the last few weeks. He still loves performing for his fans and creating, but this tour has been a little like a pressure cooker. He's already stopped meet and greets and pictures with fans but he is still feeling stifled.
''He has talked about getting away from it all, seeing the wider world and relaxing. The idea is for him to travel the world seeing some of the greatest cities and exotic places around like a backpacker would. But obviously with an unlimited budget of a multi-millionaire.''
The 'Love Yourself' hitmaker has since put an end to his controversial behaviour and put his turbulent past behind him, after he reconnected with his Christian faith and patched up his relationship with his mother.

Baby almost dies after brother, 3, fed him three screws when mum was out

by , in

A newborn baby almost died after his older brother fed him three metal screws while the pair were left unattended.

The two boys had been left at home by their mother, who had expected her three-year-old son to look after his younger brother, who was only 37 days old.

But when she returned, she found the baby foaming at the mouth and immediately rushed him to hospital on Tuesday. However, due to the procedure of removing the screws being too risky, the hospital refused to carry it out.

Pic shows: A gastroscopy revealed the three screws inside the boy's body Doctors had to perform a risky endoscopy on a 37-day-old baby???s stomach after his older brother fed him three metal screws. According to the boy???s mother, the infant began foaming at the mouth and his three-year-old brother admitted to feeding his sibling the indigestible objects. Doctor Li Xiaoqin, head of gastroenterology at Zhengzhou Children???s Hospital in Central China???s Henan Province, said the mum first took her baby to a smaller county facility which refused to do the risky procedure. The infant was then transferred to provincial capital Zhengzhou, where a small team of experts were assembled for the job. They used a gastroscope and a magnet to retrieve the three screws, which were still in the boy???s stomach. Doctor Li said: "Even newborns can have endoscopies, but we wouldn???t have been able to retrieve the screws using the thinnest instrument. "We had to use the 7.5-millimetre (0.3-inch) gastroscope, which we feared would be too thick for the baby. "It was of course a risk, but we decided it was better than surgery." The medic said the screws had fortunately not harmed the boy???s digestive tract. The mum revealed to the doctors that her two sons had been left when the accident happened.

Rita Ora locks lips with Cardi B in Girls music video (watch)

by , in

Rita Ora passionately locks lips with Cardi B in the raunchy video for 'Girls'.
The 27-year-old singer teamed up with Cardi, Bebe Rexha and Charli XCX on the track - which features the lines, ''Sometimes I just wanna kiss girls, girls, girls'' and ''I'm open-minded ... I'm 50/50, and I'm never gonna hide it'' - and hailed it her ''bisexual anthem''.
So it's no surprise that the sizzling promo, which is just under four minutes long, sees the 'Bodak Yellow' rapper appear in hologram form touching up Rita's neck, before leaning in for the seductive smooch.
The video also shows Bebe go tongue-to-tongue with herself in a mirror and lead singer Rita lay in a forest-setting with a host of lookalikes.
Talking about her intentions with the song, Rita said: ''It really represents freedom and the chance to be what you want to be - and there being no judgment and just living your life as you want to live it. That's what this song represents to me every time I hear it.
''It was really inspired by one of my favourite songs: 'I Kissed a Girl' by Katy Perry. That was the first song anyone heard of Katy Perry's, and it was just such a statement; it was so fun. I wanted to do something that was in that lane.''
Asked if she'd like for it to be a bisexual anthem, she added: ''Definitely. I definitely want it to feel like it's an anthem to somebody. I want there to be a sense of freedom for anyone who listens to it. So I'll take it!''
The raunchy single has courted controversy and was accused of trivialising bisexuality by singer Hayley Kiyoko.
She wrote on Instagram: ''Every so often there come certain songs with messaging that is just downright tone-deaf, which does more harm than good for the LGBTQ+ community. A song like this just fuels the male gaze while marginalising the idea of women loving women.''
In particular, Hayley took issue with the song's chorus, which reads: ''Sometimes, I just wanna kiss girls/Red wine, I just wanna kiss girls.''
The singer - who describes herself as a gay woman - continued: ''I don't need to drink wine to kiss girls; I've loved women my entire life. This type of message is dangerous because it completely belittles and invalidates the very pure feelings of an entire community.''
However, many have come to the defence of Rita, including collaborator Charli and her pal Cara Delevingne.

Bill Gates' Daughter Jennifer Aims High in Miami Beach Horse-Jumping Competition

by , in

Jennifer Gates, the 21-year-old daughter of billionaire businessman Bill Gates and wife Melinda Gates, tested her equestrian skills on Thursday while competing in the Longines Global Champions Tour in Miami Beach, Florida.
nationally ranked professional show jumper, Jennifer appeared to be in solid form at the event, which runs through Saturday on a beachside competition ring set up behind the luxe Setai Hotel.
Dressed in a blue riding coat featuring the name of her training facility, Evergate Stables (which has bases in Rancho Santa Fe, California, and Wellington, Florida), Jennifer rode a 14-year-old gray Levisto named Luftikus S. The horse is one of 10 she’s ridden throughout her competition career, according to her official bio.
On the Longines Global Champions Tour, Jennifer is competing against 63 other riders from all over the world, including Australia, Brazil, Egypt, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the U.K., according to the competition’s website.
Jennifer’s not the only one with a famous last name on the roster: She’ll also be going up against Georgina Bloomberg, daughter of former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Jessica Springsteen, daughter of singer (and current Broadway starBruce Springsteen.
When she’s not competing, Jennifer is a student at Stanford University. The human biology student is expected to graduate this year, according to her Instagram bio.
She told Horse Network in 2016 that balancing school work and horse shows on the weekend makes her life “a little busy,” but that she loves doing both.
As for whether she’ll pursue it as a full-time career path after graduation, Jennifer was torn.
“I honestly don’t know,” she said. “I never saw myself jumping these big classes, ever. So it’s kind of new to me that I could do them and do well. I always thought I’d just be an amateur and go to medical school or pursue another professional career. But I don’t know now. This may be something that I’ll want to dedicate a few more years to and try and jump 5* Grand Prix and see where it goes.”
Bill and Melinda Gates also have an 18-year-old son, Rory, and 15-year-old daughter, Phoebe.
Meanwhile, this is the fourth year in a row the Longines Global Champions Tour has rolled into Miami. The second leg in the 2018 season, the competition gives riders the chance to gain points in the overall Championship season battle.

Instagram influencer Loki the Sphynx cat dies unexpectedly

by , in

We’ve got some really sad news this morning, guys. Feline Instagram influencer Loki the Sphynx has died.

Loki was an eight year old male Sphynx cat – a breed of cat known for its lack of coat – who shot to fame on Instagram thanks to his incredibly grumpy face, which was even grumpier than the original Grumpy Cat.

Who knew that was even possible? Loki was adopted by his humans, Brent Erickson and Sara Kjelsvig, who lived with their furless baby in New York.

Yesterday, they made the shocking announcement that their little buddy had died suddenly during a routine dental procedure.

‘Brent and I are absolutely devastated, we unexpectedly lost our little buddy and best friend last night,’ Sara wrote on Loki’s Instagram.

‘We brought Loki in for a routine dental cleaning and during recovery one of the staff noticed an increase in his breathing. ‘They tried everything but his little heart couldn’t take it. Loki didn’t make it. The vet suspects he had underlying heart disease that didn’t show until yesterday.

‘We know a lot of you never met Loki but he made a great impact on all of you. Today we will be posting a bunch of our favorite photos of him and we ask you to share your Loki stories with us.

‘Thank you all for being so loving and supportive. We can never say thank you enough. And to Loki, we love you forever little buddy.’

Maria Sharapova hits back at Serena Williams after French Open exit

by , in

Maria Sharapova insisted it would have been ‘strange’ for her not to feature Serena Williams prominently in her autobiography, while denying the American’s claim that the book was ‘100% hearsay’.

The Russian was due to meet Williams in the last-16 of the French Open but the 23-time Grand Slam champion withdrew from the contest with a pectoral injury.

Prior to the scheduled clash, Williams questioned comments made by Sharapova in her book ‘Unstoppable: My Life So Far’. ‘I don’t think she’s ever forgiven me for it’ – witnessing this ‘low and vulnerable moment,’ Sharapova wrote.

‘I think Serena hated me for being the skinny kid who beat her, against all odds, at Wimbledon. I think she hated me for taking something that she believed belonged to her.

‘I think she hated me for seeing her at her lowest moment. But mostly I think she hated me for hearing her cry. She’s never forgiven me for it.

‘Not long after the tournament, I heard Serena told a friend – who then told me – “I will never lose to that little b**** again”.’

But after Williams had questioned why she was so heavily involved in the book while dismissing the comments as ‘hearsay’, Sharapova hit back and insisted that she wouldn’t pen lies.

‘Well, I think it would be strange for me not to include someone that I have competed against for so many years,’ she said after her quarter-final defeat at the hands of Garbine Muguruza.

‘I think there is a lot of autobiographies out in the world, especially in the sporting world, that don’t necessarily speak about whether they were rivals or someone they competed against.

‘And I think we played many matches. Some of those matches were very defining for me. It would be very strange, I think, if I didn’t write anything about her. ‘I think everyone would ask me questions, as well.

So I’m not entirely sure how to go about that answer. When you’re writing an autobiography, I don’t think there is any reason to write anything that’s not true.’

On her comprehensive 6-2 6-1 defeat to Muguruza, Sharapova added: ‘I think she did a lot of things better than I did. ‘I think she was the aggressive one. She had a lot more depth in the ball. I think my shots were a lot more forced.

She served a lot better than I did.’
