MAYWEATHER, MESSI, RONALDO TOP FORBES’ HIGHEST-PAID ATHLETES LIST

Floyd Mayweather reclaimed his place at the top of Forbes’ annual ranking of the 100 highest-paid athletes on Tuesday but no woman featured on the list for the first time.

Mayweather returns as the world’s highest-paid athlete for the fourth time in seven years, thanks to a $275 million payday for his August boxing match against UFC star Conor McGregor (No. 4).

Mayweather unseats Cristiano Ronaldo, who held the crown the previous two years. Ronaldo drops to third this year, with longtime rival Lionel Messi (No. 2) edging him out after signing a new contract. Mayweather, Ronaldo and Tiger Woods (No. 16) are the only three athletes to top the best-paid list over the past 18 years.

McGregor meanwhile vaulted up the rankings to fourth spot, thanks to his $85 million cut of the Mayweather purse.

A further $14 million in endorsements took the Irish fighter’s earnings to $99 million, just behind Real Madrid soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, who was third with earnings of $108 million.

Brazilian footballer Neymar was fifth on the list with $90 million in earnings, his salary boosted by his record-breaking transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain last year.

NBA icon LeBron James was the highest-paid basketball player to feature on the list, coming in at sixth with total earnings of $85.5 million, just ahead of men’s tennis king Roger, who earned $77.2 million.

“Boxing’s biggest night of 2017 helped Mayweather and McGregor earn nearly $400 million combined,” said Kurt Badenhausen, senior editor, Forbes Media. “But basketball players dominate the top 100 overall thanks to a soaring salary cap triggered by the NBA’s $24 billion TV contract.”

Hilarious video! Zookeeper who breaks up fight between lions with nothing but a slipper (Watch)

A zookeeper has been caught on camera disciplining a dominant lion with a slipper after it started bullying a young lioness. Oleg Zubkov, director of Taygan safari park in Crimea, Ukraine, walked into the pride of lions and threw the slipper at the lion who was leading others in the harassment of a younger lioness.

The adult lion runs off in fear after being threatened with the slipper. The video filmed by onlooker showed zoo director Oleg in the enclosure with what appear to be zoo visitors in a completely open vehicle with no sides.

He notices that a young lioness is being harassed by the dominant male and older lionesses.

Mr Zubkov can be seen getting out of his car and heading to the group as the pack growl and threaten the young female. But the hostility ends instantly as he waves his slipper at them and then throws it at the leader of the pack.

After that the zoo director then throws the slipper at a female lion. He said: ‘They are being naughty and so here comes the magic slipper.

This is a scary weapon.’ Some visitors can be seen standing at the bridge and watching the scene.

Zubkov continues talking to the pride leader: ‘Behave yourself! I will not treat you like a lion. I will spank you!’ While he was dealing with other lions, some of them hid behind the car, clearly scared of the slipper.

The video ends with Mr Zubkov and the zoo visitors pulling away from the scene.

Egypt boss hits back at Sergio Ramos over Mohamed Salah injury

Egypt boss Hector Cuper has hit back at Sergio Ramos after he claimed Mohamed Salah could have played on in last month’s Champions League final.

Much was expected of Salah in Kiev last month after his record-breaking season at Anfield but he lasted just 30 minutes before leaving the field in tears.

The Egyptian superstar was dragged to the floor by defender Ramos and suffered a shoulder injury that has put his World Cup hopes in jeopardy.

On Monday, Ramos claimed Salah could have played the second-half of the match if he received an injection, but Cuper has offered a sarcastic response to his comments.

‘I’m not a doctor, I don’t know if [Sergio] Ramos is a doctor, but it’s a player who is playing a final and has an injury,’ the Egypt head coach said.

‘I don’t have any doubt that if he could keep playing he would do it, because a Champions League final is extraordinary.’

‘My opinion is that Salah has an important injury, there is a recovering [process] that we can see, and we are optimistic about the chances he has to play in the World Cup,’ he added.

‘We listen to many things, but the reality is that the doctors recover or confirm a problem in a player.’

The #Insecure star hosted the CFDA Fashion Awards at the Brooklyn Musuem in New York City, and during her monologue, she came for Yé right in front of his wifey Kim Kardashian West, who took home the first-ever Influencer Award.

“I’m about as fashionable as Kanye is black —only when it’s convenient,” she said. “That joke was my choice, just like slavery.”

Issa was referencing Kanye’s comments he made during his memorable TMZ interview, where he insuinated that slavery was “a choice” for African Americans.

Family Shades The Hell Out Of Mom In Obituary Tribute

I’m sure we’ve all scrolled past a couple of obituaries in our local newspapers, but none come as close to how one family shaded the hell out of one 80-year-old woman.

According to Daily Mail, Kathleen Dehmlow passed away on Thursday in Springfield, Minnesota and her family let it be known that she would not be missed at all and decided to spill all her tea as well in the Redwood Falls Gazette.

It states that she married Dennis Dehmlow in 1957, and the couple had two children, Gina and Jay.

Five years later she apparently “became pregnant by her husband’s brother Lyle Dehmlow and moved to California.”

“She abandoned her children, Gina and Jay, who were then raised by her parents in Clements, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Schunk.”

“She passed away on May 31, 2018 in Springfield and will now face judgement,” it reads.

“She will not be missed by Gina and Jay, the understand that this world is a better place without.”

The obituary has already been shared over 20,000 times on Twitter.

A majority of users were taken back by the post, but others backed Jay and Gina for keeping it real about their mom in their tribute.

Reporter Apologizes For Asking If Serena Williams Is ‘Intimidated’ By Maria Sharapova’s Look

A reporter completely lost his marbles on Saturday while interviewing Serena Williams. Inside Tennis editor and magazine publisher Bill Simons had the audacity to ask Serena if she agreed with Donnie’s comments about Serena being “intimidated” by Maria Sharapova’s “supermodel good looks.”

The awkward interview began when Bill told Serena, “I know you want to get back to [your daughter] Olympia; work with me here, please.”

Serena kept her composure and said, “Work with me.”

“We’re in this together, baby” Bill said.

Serena calmly responded, “No, we’re not—you’re not going home to a screaming baby.”

Bill then asks Serena a question that I’m sure he wishes he had never asked!

“I have been waiting about 14 years to ask you this question: After the 2004 Wimbledon match with Maria, I had the opportunity to interview Donald Trump on his L.A. golf course, and he said that Maria’s shoulders were incredibly alluring and then he came up with his incredible analysis: that you were intimidated by her supermodel good looks. My question is: Have you ever been intimidated by anyone on a tennis court, and what are your thoughts about that occurrence?”

Serena responded and said, “I honestly don’t have any thoughts about that. I can’t say I have been intimidated by anyone. That’s all. That’s it.”

Bill realized he messed up after several male journalists and writers came at him on social media for his out of pocket question.

He tweeted an apology to Serena on Sunday.

“I apologize if my awkward ques seemed 2 empower Trump or attack Serena/I SO admire her/I’ve spent lifetime fighting racism/sexism/homophobia.Started campaign 2 name US Open Stad 4 Ashe/Lobbied long 2 get Serena 2 return to I. Wells/Called out police violence vs Blake/I’m so sorry”

Hopefully this reporter learned his lesson. Unfortunately we won’t get so see Serena and Maria battle it out in the French Open since a pectoral injury forced Serena to sit this competition out.

Qatar Airways boss says women can’t do his job because it is ‘very challenging’

The boss of Qatar Airways has sparked a sexism row after claiming a woman would not be able to do his job.

Chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker said the position was ‘challenging’ and needed to be led by a man. Addressing the International Air Transport Association’s male-dominated annual meeting, Al Baker was asked what could be done to address the lack of women in Middle East aviation.

He said that wasn’t the case at Qatar Airways but added: ‘Of course it has to be led by a man, because it is a very challenging position.’ His comments were met by groans and it was unclear if the outspoken CEO was joking as they came after he quipped he had to be ‘less controversial’.

Asked whether he would welcome a woman as chief executive, Al Baker attempted to back track, saying: ‘It will be my pleasure to have a female CEO candidate I could then develop to become CEO after me’.

He later said Qatar Airways was the first carrier in the region to have female pilots and the company had women in senior roles. ‘So we actually encourage women. We see that they have huge potential in doing senior management positions,’ he said.

The comments come as business leaders are under pressure to address gender inequality in the workplace and boost the number of women in senior positions. Big companies have been forced to reveal their gender pay gaps – the difference between average salaries for male and female staff – as part efforts to tackle sexism by Prime Minister Theresa May.

The aviation industry has long faced criticism of sexism where well-paid pilots are usually men and low-paid cabin crews are traditionally female. Yesterday, the boss of Heathrow John Holland-Kaye, distanced himself from Al Baker’s comments.

He said: ‘Diversity and inclusion are part of our core values and I have no doubt that a woman could carry out my role.

His counterparts at rival carriers also seized on the comments.

Designer Kate Spade found dead in apparent suicide, police say

Kate Spade, the designer who built a fashion empire on her signature handbags before selling the brand, was found dead in her New York City apartment on Tuesday morning in an apparent suicide, police said.

Spade, 55, hanged herself and was found by her housekeeper at her home on Park Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the New York Daily News reported, citing unnamed police officials.

Spade was a former accessories editor at the now-closed Mademoiselle magazine before launching her namesake design company, Kate Spade New York, in 1993. It began by selling handbags before expanding to include clothing, jewellery, bedding, legwear and fragrances. She sold the brand in 2006.

The Kansas City, Missouri, native married Andy Spade, brother of actor David Spade, in 1994. In 2016, the couple launched a new fashion brand called Frances Valentine, which sells footwear and accessories.

Tapestry Inc, the handbag company formerly known as Coach, bought the Kate Spade brand in May 2017 to tap millennials, who are drawn to the company’s quirky satchels and colourful tote bags. The deal also turned Coach into a multibrand fashion house, a strategy that European counterparts such as Louis Vuitton have built their businesses on.

The New York Police Department confirmed the designer’s death under her birth name, Katherine Noel Brosnahan. Spade’s business representatives did not respond to a request for comment.

'We're just as corrupt as Russia' World Cup host Gary Lineker

Gary Lineker and Vladimir Putin resumed their unlikely alliance yesterday as the BBC host defended the decision to hold the World Cup in Russia.

Lineker, who scored 48 times for England, attacked critics of this year’s host country, saying: ‘Who are we to start getting judgemental on who should have the World Cup?

‘We all know how corrupt our country is at times.

‘Perhaps we don’t like some things that Putin has done, but we’ll be there, we’ll be their guests.’

The comments come six months after the Match of the Day host reportedly received £20,000 for hosting the World Cup draw in Moscow.

The 57-year-old also dismissed fears that England fans will be targeted by Russian hooligans.

The former striker, who did not receive a single yellow or red card during his playing career, told Radio Times he had not received security training, adding: ‘I’m not an aggressive, violent man, as my football record suggests. I just hide behind my desk! Nothing will [kick off] ... because it never does. It’ll be fine. It’ll be great. What governments do is another matter, but the people of Russia have actually been very welcoming.’

Lineker will lead BBC Sport’s coverage of the World Cup, which begins next Thursday. He expects France, Germany, Brazil and Spain to do well – but not England, who start against Tunisia on June 18.

He advised coach Gareth Southgate to tell his players to set aside any aspirations of winning, and ‘just enjoy it’.

He added: ‘It’s the hope that kills you. The World Cup starts and our expectations rise, and then we’re disappointed.’ Lineker faced criticism in December for rubbing shoulders with Mr Putin at the Kremlin, despite having criticised Fifa, football’s governing body, on a number of occasions.

He tweeted in 2014: ‘It makes you feel sick actually, the whole Fifa thing. The corruption at the top level is nauseous.’

The following year he said Fifa was a ‘revolting organisation’ and in 2016 he called it ‘a disgrace’.

Lineker claimed he would not have taken the job if disgraced former Fifa chief Sepp Blatter had not been ousted in 2015.

O just bought a sprawling 43-acre estate on Orcas Island tucked away in an inlet, north of Seattle. The property she purchased is known as Madroneagle, and she spent $8.275 million to have it all to herself.

The estate comes with a main house, a guest house, a gazebo with glass walls, a barn and workshop, a sauna and a craft shed. The main house is 3 stories with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The guest house is also a 4 bed, 3 bath, but significantly smaller in square footage.

Sources close to the deal tell us Oprah never set foot on the island to see the new pad in person. She clearly read enough to pull the trigger, though. We don't know if she's planning to actually live there part-time, but it looks like she should!

Mel B’s Ex Seeking Temporary Restraining Order

Mel B’s ex-husband Stephen Belafonte has been denied a request for an emergency restraining order against the pop star.

Belafonte filed the U.S. court motion over the weekend, claiming he fears for his life as the former Spice Girls singer has allegedly been telling friends she wants him dead or behind bars, reports TMZ.com.

He explained he has been suffering from stress, anxiety, and high blood pressure because of the supposed threat, which has landed him in hospital twice, insisting, “(The) last 12 months of my life have been a true hell.”

Belafonte failed to sway the judge overseeing the case due to a lack of evidence, but all was not lost – he has been given the opportunity to detail the issue during a hearing later this month.

Mel B, full name Melanie Brown, has yet to comment on the accusations.
The exes separated in March, 2017 after 10 years of marriage and finalised their divorce in December, but they have continued to clash over custody of Mel’s daughter Angel, from her fling with comedian Eddie Murphy, as Belafonte wants to maintain a relationship with his former stepdaughter, insisting he raised the 11-year-old like his own child.

They previously reached an agreement over their shared assets and custody of their six-year-old daughter Madison following a messy legal battle. Meanwhile, they have also feuded over the sale of their former marital home in the Hollywood Hills and Mel was recently awarded sole possession and use after allegedly discovering Belafonte had been using the pad as a party palace.

Lawyers for the two sides were back in court on Monday, when the former couple agreed to shave another $1 million off the asking price in a bid to offload the property, according to TheBlast.com.

The four-bedroom mansion, which also boasts a pool and spa, was originally placed on the market last year for just under $9 million, before Mel dropped the sale price to almost $7.5 million.

Mel B and Belafonte have also been ordered to meet at the pad next week to remove all of their remaining property from the garage.

Their next court date is set for 16 July.
