The American actor and singer shunned a partner, friend or family member to work the cameras with his gold certification plaque for his single, Icon.
Simth, the son of Hollywood stars Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, held the framed disc up to his face as he was mobbed by photographers outside New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The move comes a year after he was accompanied by his own chopped off blonde dreadlocks.
Fans were predictably confused with his new ‘date’ with one telling him to “quit bringing random stuff to the #MetGALA”. But others branded him an “icon” and a “goddamn king”.
One Twitter user posted: “Can someone please buy Jaden Smith some home insurance. Boys carrying his valuables with him everywhere or was that his ticket into the #MetGala2018.
“Someone balance me please.”
Another wrote: “Jaden Smith repeating his imaginative accessorizing from last year #metgala. This time, instead of his dreds he has his gold certification plaque.”
Lord, please give me the strength to have as much confidence as Jaden Smith at the #MetGala. pic.twitter.com/1WrMBDJeH4— Samantha Lui (@samanthalui_) May 8, 2018

Jaden Smith showing up with his own framed gold record to the Met Gala is me showing up at your birthday party with a bottle of Veuve I drink to myself and a present for you that’s just a framed picture of me. This man is a goddamn king. pic.twitter.com/iOCZ7bEAhg— Foster Kamer (@weareyourfek) May 8, 2018
Smith appeared to shun this year’s Heavenly Bodies theme, instead opting to wear trainers and a Louis Vuitton coat.
Rihanna was among those who embraced the theme in a custom-made John Galliano gown with a papal inspired headdress.
