Will Smith has released the official World Cup song, Live It Up, alongside Nicky Jam and Era Istrefi. The song, produced by Diplo, features a dance beat while the lyrics encourage fans to stick together ahead of the football tournament – which kicks off in Russia on 14 June.
And we think it’s a bit of a banger.
Unfortunately, fans have been left divided by the official song, with many complaining it doesn’t even compare to songs from the past.

‘Have you heard LIVE IT UP yet? Lol. The official World Cup song. Just heard it not too bad but won’t beat vindaloo. Ha,’ one tweeted.
‘Omg Will Smith’s world cup song sounds like something you hear on holiday round the pool when the reps try and get everyone dancing,’ another replied. While many more said the upbeat song didn’t match the vibe of the tournament.
‘This new World Cup song by will smith has proper Russian bounce to it. Can see it now, England losing 4-0 to panama, drowning my sorrows in vodka doing this while the song plays,’ a Twitter user posted.
‘Nothing says “World Cup in Russia” like a song by Will Smith & Diplo ffs. Not that it’s any worse than official tournament music ever is, but why didn’t they get Dima Bilan to do it?’ one questioned.
But others revealed the track has got them in the mood for the tournament. ‘I LOVE IT!! It’s on repeat for the past few minutes and really it’s a really great hymn 2018 WORLD CUP IS COMING,’ a fan commented. And another added: ‘Just heard the official World Cup song featuring Era Istrefi..
AND ITS FUCKING LITTTTT #LIVEITUP.’
Fans are divided over Live It Up’s World Cup potential

The official World Cup song is shit. I'm very disappointed in Will Smith for getting involved. Horror show...— Sam Nicholls (@SamuelNicholls4) May 25, 2018

WOOOOOAAHHH OOOAAAHHH OOOOAAAHHH
This year's World Cup song clearly doesn't touch Pitbull's 2014 level of greatness. But it's definitely still pretty special. https://t.co/i5FHV8NNnc— george butler (@georgecbutler) May 25, 2018

Will Smith doing the world cup song with Diplo. Lets. Go!!— รɛyi รɑѵɑgɛ (@alfred_savage) May 25, 2018
Will recently opened up about getting in the studio for Live It Up, alongside Diplo, Era and Nicky, branding the whole experience an ‘honour’. ‘It’s an honour to be asked to perform at the 2018 FIFA World Cup,’ he explained. ‘This global event brings people from all over the world together to cheer, laugh and experience magic.
‘Collaborating with Nicky, Diplo and Era on this track represents harmony, eclectic flavours and genres coming together. At the end of the day, we just want to see the world dance.’ Well, love it or hate it, we’ll be hearing a lot more of it when the World Cup starts next month.
