A policeman has been caught on camera repeatedly punching a bikini-wearing young woman in the head after suspecting her of drinking alcohol on a beach. Emily Weinman, 20, was body-slammed onto the sand and pinned down by officers as bystanders on the New Jersey beach filmed the arrest.
Police had suspected Weinman had been drinking alcohol on the beach and breathalysed her. She blew a negative test and then asked if ‘they did not have anything better to do with their time.’ This sparked an angry reaction from the police so they decided to arrest her by force.
The New Jersey beach was packed with people celebrating Memorial Day weekend, according to MailOnline.
In the video her baby can be heard screaming as Emily is heard shouting ‘you are not allowed to hit me like that’ and ‘I’m not resisting. I didn’t do anything wrong.’
After the incident Emily vented her frustration about the police in a post on Facebook and uploaded a video. She said: ‘I had alcohol, it’s Memorial Day weekend and 90% of people are underage drinking on the beach, without a doubt.
‘I was breathalysed and it came back negative. I told them I wasn’t drinking and the alcohol was clearly closed/sealed, which the cops seen.
‘I asked them don’t they have something better to do as cops than to stop people for underage drinking on the beach, saying to that there’s so much more serious stuff going on.’
She said within seconds she had blacked out as the officers had body slammed and punched her. She said: ‘That’s when he headlocked me by [putting] his arm around my neck, punched on me in my head and then he head locked me again but this time choking me, I was gasping for air.’
She admitted she should have been more co-operative but the heavy handedness of the police meant she had to share the video.
The officers in the video work for Wildwood Police Department who confirmed the officers had been taken off the street due to the video.
A police statement read: ‘An Internal Affairs Investigation was immediately initiated into this matter and the involved officers have been reassigned to administrative duty pending the outcome of a full and thorough investigation.
‘While Chief Robert Regalbuto finds this video to be alarming, he does not want to rush to any judgement until having the final results of the investigation.’
