Her Hips Don’t Lie but perhaps her tax returns do - as Shakira has been hit with a muti-million pound tax bill.
The 41-year-old chart topping star has handed over almost £18 million to the Spanish tax man to settle an alleged tax debt from 2011.
Spanish newspaper El Periodico claims the Colombian pop star is being investigated for her tax returns from 2012 and 2014 and could face prosecution charges.
Shakira has already paid €20 million (£17.65 million) for her 2011 tax bill and is launching an appeal against her local tax office.
The singer lives in Barcelona and has been dating footballer Gerard Pique since 2010, with whom she has two children.
Spanish officials are said to be pushing for Shakira to be charged for income tax on her worldwide earnings between 2012 and 2014 because she lived in Spain during that period making it possible she could face taxes for earnings not just earned in the European country.
El Periodico also reports that Spanish tax officials have been questioning staff in Barcelona as part of a probe to prove she was living in the city after her romance with Gerard began.
Shakira previously fell under the spotlight last year over earnings in relation to the Paradise Papers scandal.
Her lawyer Ezequiel Camerini told Spanish news website El Confidencial the Shakira’s involvent in the off-shore finances was justified “as an international artist, she had lived in several places in the course of her professional life, acting in total accordance with the laws of all the jurisdictions she resides in.”
Shakira is set to earn buckets more money this year as her El Dorado World Tour kicks off in June.
