How I Wooed my wife, Joke Silva – Veteran Actor Olu Jacob

by , in

Recently, Entertainer caught up with the couple at the opening of Bolanle Austin Peters’ Fela and the Kalakuta Queens at Terra Culture, V. I, Lagos, and the thespian opened up on stage plays in Nigeria and how he wooed Joke Silva 40 years ago.
A while ago, Fela on Broadway hit Nigeria and made waves but Americans did the telling of the story? Today, thanks to Bolanle Austin-Peters, this is a Nigerian production.
Do you think we can sell this to the world? You wait and see. I am waiting too. I believe we are all going to be wowed! I mean, so pleasantly surprised. Don’t you know the songs and the actors? They will surprise us.
Sir, stage plays are on the rise now. In fact, before we never had stage plays week in week out at a venue, apart from The Muson Centre and National Theatre…Do we have any good theatre venue?
No, not at all. Now, people are making effort because the demand is encouraging and they are responding to it. This is only the beginning and we are entering a change; this is the time for change and we are getting it right.
You have done over four decades as an actor. When you look back, what would you say are your happiest moments?
Looking around me and seeing that many people are there to come and enjoy themselves in an area that people thought would never be possible, because in the past, actors and actresses were looked down on. Now they are doing well and people are applauding. That is my joy. Like I say, I would rather one person praise my work than have 99 do the opposite.
Even if I have my work praised by 99 people but one comes and says sorry, I don’t understand it, it ruins everything.  This is only the beginning.
The schools are going back to play their traditional roles and acting and drama are all part of the curriculum; that was how we grew up.
You were in Oloibiri, a fantastic movie. Yes, it won awards but what do you think made the movie stand out?
Good work. You look at the lighting, it captures the mood and the sound was good.
What more do you want?
And the story is compelling. You are shocked and your thinking will never be the same again. The story was being told to people who knew about it and some who did not know about it, but the message was passed. The movie is like a reawakening, to make sure we don’t let this happen again.
Are any of your kids taking after you?
Well, it may not be in front of the camera, maybe behind the camera. You are married to one of the prettiest and talented actresses in Nollywood.
How did you meet Joke Silva? We learnt that you actually snatched her from a rival. What really happened?
(Laughter) That is very wrong. I was invited to come and do a play in Nigeria by the National Theatre. I was living in England at that time. I was to play lead in Wole Soyinka’s The Trials of Brother Jero.  We were having the production when the door opened and this lady walked in and said sorry, we are ready.
When she walked in I said excuse me ladies and gentlemen, this is the lady I am going to marry. You know bodies can attract and bodies can repel. I saw her and I was attracted. I am not an impulsive person. I did not just say come. I had to struggle to get her. She was stunned even though she gave me up and down. (laughter).
Your union is a testament to how celebrities should handle their marriage. We have seen a lot of stories about breakups and it is saddening. Is it that actors and actresses can’t make good homes?
No, quite frankly, let me tell you what. I don’t encourage people to think that way. It is virtually in all professions, in all offices whereever you have women and men together. Even if you don’t hear it, we have a lot of divorces in all other sectors.
For the fact that you don’t hear it in other sectors like banking or in the oil sector, as oily as it is, does not mean it is not happening. It is in all offices where we have men and women.
What is the secret to your successful marriage?
It is the grace of God. And you must learn to be patient and above all, learn to be friends. She is your friend, your lover; she is not your slave. You don’t do that to a woman. You don’t intimidate her. If she is your friend, you will be tender. When a friend is involved you are tender.
Sir, we also understand that you are a great cook. Can you tell us about that?
(Laughter) I try, when I cook they eat.Was that one of the skills that made your wife fall for you…(Laughter) In the house, when we were growing up, you know usually, the girls did all the work and the boys did not.
So, my parents decided that what they would do was give us a competition. Let the boys cook for the boys and the girls cook for the girls. So, you have to eat what you cook and that was what did it. We all had to learn.
As a veteran, can you give us tips to success as an actor?
Repetition of an act makes its performance almost automatic. The more you do something the better it gets. Patience, you must have patience and believe in yourself. If you really need to ask questions, please go and ask. Don’t shy away, they won’t think you are stupid; they will help you.

Please save the energy you waste tweeting and complaining Oritsefemi's ex-manager, Lady Kara shades him on IG

by , in

In a post apparently directed at him, former manager of singer, Oritsefemi, LadyKara, has asked the singer to stop tweeting nonsense as it is quite pathetic. Oristefemi has been in the news in the last two days following his tweets attacking younger artistes over their recent music concerts.

In one of his tweets, Oritsefemi said none of the musical concerts can be compared to his November 25th wedding. Read here.
Kara in her post believes that older artistes should stop whinning when they see younger artistes doing well. She advised the older artistes to please save the energy they waste tweeting and complaining. Read her post below

I find it sad to watch Music veterans fall apart when they see success and growth from younger artists. Wizkid, Davido, Patoranking, Olamide, Tiwa, Yemi, Kiss Daniel, Wande and Tekno among so many other fantastic talents have put in so much work, released such great material and have become such great positive forces with propelling our culture through music to the world ... and it makes me so proud. It is uplifting when Femi Kuti,Tubaba, Sound Sultan, Ruggedman, Daddy Showkey, Faze, and so on release music and also support these talents, appear at performances alongside them. It is exemplary and it is beautiful! I wish sense was common. If you refuse to put in the work, you refuse to behave yourself admirably and you refuse to grow your own talent or ask for help because of a destructive ego, you are too busy looking at other people's progress to give your own a chance? Please save the energy you waste tweeting and complaining. It is quite pathetic. Focus on your brand and progress. Surround yourself with folk who care about you, inspire you and motivate you. Be kind to every one and share the love. The love in your heart will radiate in your music, in the interaction with your peers and in your entire life. In the words of my bro a very well respected King Tubaba... Na one love! #unity #positivity #love Support positivity always! The sky is big enough for all stars to shine. My winning darlings please do NOT allow anyone dim your light because they complain it is shinning in their eyes... God gave eyelids...they can use it. Shine on! We love you ! #khaleesi💜

Beyoncé Loses Bid To Keep Deposition Private In Trademark Case

by , in
Earlier this year superstar singer Beyoncé filed legal papers to trademark the name of her five-year-old daughter with rapper Jay-Z - Blue Ivy Carter. The Crazy in Love singer wanted to reserve the rights to use the moniker in any future beauty, fashion and electronics ventures without anyone else being able to cash in on her daughter’s name.
However, the 36-year-old mum-of-three’s application has met resistance in the form of Veronica Morales who said Blue’s trademark was too close to her event planning company name - Blue Ivy Company - and so she took legal action.

Morales served the singer with a notice to sit for a deposition in the case, and shortly after, in September, Beyoncé’s lawyers filed court documents requesting a protective order which would ban details about the time and location of the session.
They also requested that what she says about her family during the round of questioning isn't made public - as the singer was concerned for her family's safety.
However, the famous family’s request has been shutdown by members of the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board who ruled they didn’t find their arguments about Beyoncé’s fears for her family persuasive and denied the motion.
When Beyoncé’s lawyers filed the request, they said the order would help minimise the "intrusive use for security" for the singer - who also shares twins Rumi and Sir with husband, Jay-Z.
The Formation singer’s representatives also said the order would "reduce the dangerous pandemonium that so often marks Mrs. Carter's public appearances."
Morales claims she started her company three years before Beyoncé’s eldest daughter was born and had already secured a trademark.
It's the second time the party planners have objected to Beyoncé’s trademark attempts - the singer previously lost her bid to secure the rights to "Blue Ivy" for commercial use shortly after her little girl's arrival in 2012.

by , in
Rihanna's cousin Tavon Kaiseen Alleyne was shot to death in Barbados on Tuesday.
And the next day the We Found Love singer was toasting the 21-year-old with what appeared to be a tequila shot in a private home in Barbados as she held her niece Majesty on her hip.
The 29-year-old Grammy winner was surrounded by family as toasts included 'Rest easy blood' and 'this one is for you bro.'

There was no sign of billionaire Saudi businessman Hassan Jameel, who she has been spotted with in recent months.
The superstar wore a black top with no shoes on and her hair pulled back as she joined a gathering of close family and friends.

They were paying their respects to Tavon, who died in a hospital after being shot several times at close range on the street in the Eden Lodge area of St Michael's on the holiday island.
One of the guests is heard saying 'this one is for you bro' in a mobile phone video shot as the group drink a shot 'for Tavon.'

The words 'Rest easy blood!!!' are also heard.
Rihanna didn't seem to want to let go of Majesty.
The star, who is the child's godmother, calls herself 'Aunty Oh Na Na' and regularly posts Instagrams and snapshots of the adorable tot.

Albino Model Makes It Her Mission to Show the World ‘Being Different is a Blessing’

by , in

After a lifetime of being teased and misunderstood, albino model Ruby Vizcarra made it her mission to overcome the stereotypes about her skin condition and encourage others to embrace their natural beauty.
During an interview with Yahoo Lifestyle, Vizcarra, 24, recounted that while she was growing up in Guadalajara, Mexico, there was a lot that she didn’t understand about her condition of albinism, which leaves people mostly devoid of pigment in their skin, hair and eyes. but my mom would always say I had albinism,” Vizcarra said.

“When I was little, I didn’t know why I was different,

Although she isn’t the only one in her family with the skin condition — one of her four sisters as well as a paternal grandmother and a maternal aunt were also born with albinism — she didn’t understand as a child why she got sunburned so easily and couldn’t play outside for as long as other kids did
And she wasn’t the only person who didn’t understand much about albinism.
Vizcarra recalls walking home from school one day and overhearing a little girl ask her mother why Vizcarra’s skin was so white. The mother responded by saying Vizcarra was “very sick” and that her condition “can be contagious.”
“I still remember that day. I have it very present in my heart because it made me cry,” the model said. “I now use it as a propeller that ignites my fuel to achieve my dreams.”
