Arsene Wenger: Tears and laughter as fans react to him leaving Arsenal

by , in

Arsenal have announced that Arsene Wenger will step down as manager at the end of the season, and fans are feeling conflicted.
The Frenchman has been in charge of the north London club for almost 22 years, winning three Premier League titles in that time.
#WengerOut has become a rallying cry from fans over the past few seasons.
Now that it's finally confirmed, there are both tears of joy and despair from football fans.
For some people, it's the news they've been waiting for.
While others are sceptical that fans really are that happy.

But, whether they were #WengerIn or #WengerOut, it finally looks like Arsenal fans are united - with a huge celebration of the manager's legacy taking place on social media.
The 68-year-old said Arsenal will have his "love and support forever".

That was a bit much for some people.

For many Arsenal fans, Arsene is all there has ever been.

Even those who had to play against his formidable teams of the early 2000s have been complementary.
Gary Neville said teams like the Invincibles, who went the whole 2003-04 season without losing a single game on the way to winning Wenger's last Premier League title, were the "best teams that I played against".

There have been increased and repeated calls for the manager to leave over recent years, with Arsenal finishing outside of the Champions League places last season for the first time in Wenger's reign.
With Arsenal sitting sixth they look likely to miss out again, but still have the opportunity to qualify by winning the Europa League.
Regardless of league position, fans are pleased Wenger was able to call it a day himself.
Neutrals and fans of other clubs have been letting their thoughts known too.

Questions are being asked about who will take over when Wenger leaves - with iconic captain Patrick Vieira and former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti the favourites.
Obviously fans have other suggestions.

For Radio 1's Greg James though, there's one bigger question left to answer.

Breaking News: Arsene Wenger to leave Arsenal after 22 seasons with club

by , in

Longtime Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will step down at the end of the season after 22 seasons, the club announced Friday.
Wenger, 68, was the longest-serving manager in English soccer and became the second manager ever to go through an English season undefeated on its way to a Premier League title in 2004.
“After careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season,” Wenger said in a statement. “I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years. I managed the club with full commitment and integrity.”
Wenger has won the Premier League title three times since taking over the helm in October 1996, but the club hasn’t had the same success it did in 2004. Wenger led the club to a Champions League final, but ultimately lost to Barcelona. The loss started Wenger’s downfall in London, according to The Guardian.

Arsenal is sixth in the standings with five matches left in the season. The team only has a real shot to make the Champions League by winning the Europa League.
“This is one of the most difficult days we have ever had in all our years in sport,” club owner Stan Kroenke said. “One of the main reasons we got involved with Arsenal was because of what Arsene has brought to the club on and off the pitch. His longevity and consistency over such a sustained period at the highest level of the game will never be matched.”
Arsenal will hire a new manager “as soon as possible,” the club said.
“We have high ambitions to build on Arsene’s remarkable tenure and to honor his vision by ensuring that Arsenal competes for and wins the biggest and most important prizes in the game,” Kroenke said. “We must now focus on making a strong finish to the season and ask our millions of fans around the world to join us in paying appropriate tribute to one of the greats of Arsenal’s history and one of the greats of the game.”

#LAZYNIGERIANYOUTHS: BANKY W, NIGERIAN TWITTER REACTS TO BUHARI’S COMMENTS

by , in

The hashtag #LazyNigerianYouth is trending on Twitter following the statements of President Muhammadu Buhari that Nigerian youths are lazy and unwilling to work which was the reason for the high rise in the unemployment rate.
Nigerians took to Twitter showcasing their jobs and slamming the President for his remarks.
Nigerian singer BankyW also lent his voice to the growing din, sharing a video of Buhari’s speech on Instagram and urging youths to use their votes as their voice next year.
He said; So apparently, this is what our President thinks about the Nigerian youth.
What do you guys think?
I have a suggestion. Whether you agree, or disagree with the President’s comments, this time, do a little bit more than posting, commenting, retweeting, and complaining. Go and register to vote.
I’ve sat in countless meetings, seminars, conferences and hangouts with young people. We are always great at pointing out our issues.. but the truth is that we can sit around and complain from now until Kingdom come. IT WILL NOT MATTER. INEC will not count your tweets. Let’s turn the month of May into #PVCMay
Even if you don’t know who you’re voting for.. even if you hate every single candidate. At least register.. so that if someone comes along who you feel compelled to support, you can.
If you’re really serious about wanting Nigeria to be a better place, go and register to vote. Get your PVC asap. The registration period will end LONG before the elections come, so if you think you can wait until next year, you are wrong.
Get your PVC today. Or don’t bother complaining about anything, because it won’t matter. Your tweets will not count. Your vote will.

Nigerians have also reacted to this development speaking out on how hard they work and what they have had to do to make it in life and survive in a country and structure that does them a disservice.
