Fans react to Barcelona’s humiliating Champions League exit at Roma: ‘Time to admit Cristiano Ronaldo is better than Messi, maybe?’

by , in

Barcelona were all-but through in the Champions League after a 4-1 first leg win over Roma.
At least, that’s what we thought.
But nobody accounted for an inspired Roma performance that sent the Italians through on the away goals rule after a 3-0 second leg victory.
And fans were quick to point to a largely anonymous performance from Barcelona’s star man, Lionel Messi.

Liverpool break Manchester United’s Champions League record to book place in semi finals

by , in

Liverpool booked their place in the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in a decade and in the process beat a long-standing record held by Manchester United. Roberto Firmino’s goal was Liverpool’s 33rd goal of the current campaign, one better than United’s total in 2002-03, meaning Jurgen Klopps’s side have now enjoyed the most prolific season in Europe’s premier club competition of any English side. Leading 3-0 from the first leg at Anfield a week ago, Liverpool made the worst possible start to the second leg of their quarter final tie against Manchester City with Gabriel Jesus hauling his side back into the contest inside two minutes.

Liverpool weathered the subsequent storm, albeit slightly fortuitously with Leory Sane’s goal wrongly ruled out for offside and Bernardo Silva hitting the post with a ferocious strike. Klopp reorganised his troops at the break with Mohamed Salah redeployed through the middle and the change paid almost immediate dividends with the prolific Egyptian effectively killing the tie with an impudent finish in the 56th minute. City’s momentum was killed stone dead and it took another 20 minutes for Firmino to score the record breaking goal, capitalising on a Nicolas Otamendi’s mistake and rolling the ball past Ederseon.

Mark Zuckerberg tells Congress: “I started Facebook. I run it. I’m responsible for what happens here”

by , in

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has expressed regret for the Cambridge Analytica saga.
In formal remarks submitted to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, Zuckerberg took responsibility for allowing the app to harvest the personal data of millions of its users and for reacting too slowly to respond to Russian interference during the 2016 election.

Zuckerberg described Facebook as an idealistic company that is focused on connecting people. The social network has given 2 billion people around the globe powerful new tools to stay connected with the people they love and rally around social causes, raising $20 million for Hurricane Harvey relief, he said.

"But it’s clear now we didn’t do enough to prevent these tools from being used for harm as well," Zuckerberg said. "That goes for fake news, foreign interference in elections and hate speech, as well as developers and data privacy. We didn’t take a broad enough view of our responsibility and that was a big mistake. It was my mistake, and I’m sorry. I started Facebook. I run it, and I’m responsible for what happens here."
In his formal remarks, Zuckerberg described how the political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica obtained personal information about millions of Facebook users through a Cambridge University researcher who had extracted those details through a personality quiz app. He described the steps Facebook is taking now to prevent future abuse.
Zuckerberg also addressed Facebook’s awareness of Russian cyber threats leading up to the 2016 election and the disinformation campaign run by the Internet Research Agency, which tried to manipulate people in the U.S., Europe and Russia.
Zuckerberg's comments comes ahead of two days of Congressional hearings, which began at 2:15 p.m. yesterday, April 9,  with a joint session of the Senate Judiciary and Commerce committees and resume at 10 a.m. on Wednesday before the House commerce committee.
