A birthday to remember! Mary J Blige receives a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame on her birthday

Mary J. Blige has been having an eventful week after attending the 75th Golden Globes on Sunday.
And the singer-turned-actress was spotted all smiles as she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday - which also happened to be her 47th birthday.
Mary cut a chic figure in a revealing all-black pantsuit, while stepping up to the podium to give her acceptance speech.
The Be Without You hit-maker was introduced on stage by long-time friend, Sean 'Diddy' Combs.
The music mogul shared his excitement before the ceremony by tweeting: 'So proud of @maryjblige!!!' 



Although Mary was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture on Sunday, the Mudbound actress received her Walk of Fame star in the recording category.
The producer for the Walk of Fame ceremonies, Ana Martinez, told Variety: 'Mary J. Blige is one of the most popular singers of our generation.
'Fans will be thrilled to see her star on the Boulevard as her career milestones are celebrated on this very famous sidewalk.'  




After her Walk of Fame ceremony, Mary got to celebrate her birthday and career milestone at an upscale restaurant in Los Angeles.
The hitmaker shared a sweet snap on her Instagram account, which showed a giant three-tier cake being presented to her while surrounded by her loved one.

Card surcharge ban means no more nasty surprises for shoppers -Worldnews

Hidden charges for paying with a debit or credit card will be banned from today 

Hidden charges for paying with a debit or credit card will be banned from today (13 January), helping millions of UK consumers to avoid rip-off fees when spending their hard-earned money.
So-called ‘surcharging’ has become commonplace, particularly online, with many retailers hitting people with surprise charges just before they are about to make a purchase. Some retailers have been known to add charges which are far higher than it costs them to process a payment. It is estimated that surcharging cost Brits £166 million in 2015.
Today’s ban means that it will be unlawful for retailers to charge additional fees when someone uses a particular credit or debit card, or other payment systems like PayPal, to make a purchase. This will ensure consumers can be confident that there won’t be any nasty surprises, and they won’t be penalised for wanting to pay in a particular way.
Economic Secretary to the Treasury, John Glen said:
It’s completely unfair for someone to be hit by a hidden fee just before they are about to make a purchase, so by scrapping these rip-off charges we are helping to give power back to the consumer.
As we build a fairer society, this added transparency ensures buyers can make informed choices about how they spend their hard-earned money.
The new rules will be enforced by Trading Standards who will have the power to take civil enforcement action against traders who breach the regulations. It will also entitle customers to receive a refund of any unlawful surcharge they have paid and enable them, if necessary, to take legal action to recover any such surcharge.
The ban on credit and debit card surcharges is effective across the EU from Saturday 13th January 2018, and will apply to all purchases made where the banks of the consumer and retailer are within the EEA. In the vast majority of other circumstances surcharges are capped at the cost to the retailer for processing the payment. The UK Government took the decision to also include other payment methods such as PayPal in the ban to further protect consumers.

Jeff Bezos to donate $33M in scholarships for DACA students

When announcing the donation, Bezos mentioned his father, who came to the U.S. from Cuba at 16 "...alone and unable to speak English."
Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife, MacKenzie, announced Friday that they will donate $33 million to help young undocumented immigrants who had obtained DACA status to pay for college.
Bezos, whose father came to the U.S. from Cuba, said the donation will help fund the college tuition of a thousand young immigrants who are now pursing higher education.
"My dad came to the U.S. when he was 16 as part of Operation Pedro Pan," Bezos said in a press release, referring to an early 1960s program by the Roman Catholic Church and the U.S. government that brought 14,000 children from Cuba without their parents following Fidel Castro's communist takeover.
"He landed in this country alone and unable to speak English. With a lot of grit and determination — and the help of some remarkable organizations in Delaware — my dad became an outstanding citizen, and he continues to give back to the country that he feels blessed him in so many ways. MacKenzie and I are honored to be able to help today's dreamers by funding these scholarships," stated Bezos.
DACA stands for Deferred Action for Child Arrivals, the Obama-era program that allowed young people who were brought to the United States illegally as children to remain in the country.
Bezos' donation comes as immigrants with DACA are feeling heightened anxiety and insecurityover losing their permission to stay in the U.S. and work. President Donald Trump ended the DACA program that gave them temporary protections. Congress has been trying to negotiate a solution, but Republicans and Democrats are having trouble reaching an agreement.
The donation grant will be given to the nonprofit TheDream.US, which is the nation's largest scholarship program for "Dreamers" in the country. The nonprofit partners with more than 70 low-cost colleges in 15 states, and helps DACA recipients with financial aid, books and more. Right now there are about 800,00 Dreamers who are living with DACA status in the U.S.

There's a new challenge called the #CardiBChallenge where a child is challenged in front of a parent or guardian to sing Cardi B's hit Bodak Yellow, which is filled with cuss words. 
Usually, the challenger walks up to the child and says, "Cardi B" and the child has to immediately begin rapping, "Said little bit** you can't f*** with me if you wanted to..." 
Of course this challenge comes at the risk of being spanked by your  parent but that's the whole idea, and a brother chose to challenge his sister in front of their mum, aunt, and grandmum. The older women's reactions when they heard the foul language come out of the girl's mouth is just funny.
