Divvys Blog Readers (DBRs), what’s an appropriate age to move up out of your parents’ house? A couple from New York state had to take drastic measures to finally kick their 30-year-old son out, but it worked!
According to ABC 7, Mark and Christina Rotondo’s son Michael refused to move out of their Syracuse-area home so they decided to sue him!
“After a discussion with your Mother, we have decided that you must leave this house immediately,” the father wrote to his son in an official notice, according to CBS. “You have 14 days to vacate. You will not be allowed to return. We will take whatever actions are necessary to enforce this decision.”
Even after several notices, the parents claimed that Michael wouldn’t leave. His argument? He said that legally he wasn’t given enough notice and that an additional six months was more of a reasonable time frame for him.
They even sent this an eviction notice. “Michael Joseph Rotondo, You are hereby evicted from 4** Weatheridge Drive, Camillus, New York effective immediately,” the letter said. “You have heretofore been our guest and there is no lease or agreement that gives you any right to stay here without our consent… A legal enforcement procedure will be instituted immediately if you do not leave by 15 March 2018.”
They went on to offer Michael — who moved back in with his parents after losing his job eight years ago — $1,100 to help him get on his feet. But, after he refused to take the money, they had to take things to court.
On Tuesday, State Supreme Court Judge Donald Greenwood ruled that Michael has to pack his stuff and leave! The 30-year-old called the judge’s ruling “outrageous.”
