Jose Mourinho sends message to Man United fans after Sevilla defeat

Jose Mourinho reflects on Manchester United's disappointing loss to Sevilla in the Champions League

Jose Mourinho refused to criticise the attitude of his players after Manchester United were dumped out of the Champions League by Sevilla on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils headed into the game as the heavy favourites to claim victory against their Spanish opponents after having beaten Liverpool FC 2-1 in the Premier League last weekend.
Manchester United and Sevilla had played out a goalless draw in the first leg and the Red Devils struggled to break down the Spanish side in the first half.
The game was 0-0 at the break, before two goals from Wissam Ben Yedder put the visitors 2-0 up and left Manchester United needing three goals to progress.
Romelu Lukaku’s late strike was not enough as the Red Devils were dumped out of Europe’s elite club competition.
The performance against the Spanish side was in stark contrast to their impressive display against Liverpool FC at the weekend.
However, Mourinho refused to point the finger as his players after the disappointing defeat.
Speaking at his post-match news conference, Mourinho said: “We always want more quality and movement but the players were completely free for that and we had good situations.
“I saw one just in front of me in the best period of the first half with Antonio Valencia, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford which is exactly what we work for and this is exactly what we want.
“We had good situations, we had good periods. I don’t think we had control of the game because the opponent had that, but I cannot say that my players had something wrong in terms of their attitude and their intention to play.”
Manchester United, who are second in the Premier League table, now turn their attentions towards their FA Cup quarter-final clash against Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
