What Chelsea forward Willian did when Eric Bailly handed Nemanja Matic a note in Man United's win at Old Trafford

Brazilian forward Willian was by far Chelsea's biggest threat in their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

The 29-year-old opened the scoring at Old Trafford as the Blues looked to get back to winning ways following their mid-week draw with Barcelona.

And also attempted to gain an advantage against Manchester United by reading a tactical note Eric Bailly handed to Nemanja Matic.

But Chelsea couldn't retain their lead, and were hit back almost instantly through former striker Romelu Lukaku, before Jesse Lingard won the match for the Red Devils.

After the game Jose Mourinho heaped praise on Willian, as he highlighted what his side had done in beating a team of Chelsea's calibre.

"We beat a fantastic team, they were the champions last season, and they played well against Barcelona [in their midweek Champions League match], and they started the game very well," he said.

"So we beat a very good team, we had to be organised, everybody had to follow the game plan and have spirit.

"They started very well and when they hit the post, I was looking at my players, but it was such a lovely move, we couldn't stop it.

"But we found a way to play against them, and we had a good control of Eden Hazard. Willian is an amazing player and he killed us with the goal. But we had more control of the game than them, without creating lots of chances."

It's not clear whether Mourinho made a tactical change in order to contain Willian after his goal, but it seems the Brazilian at least predicted he might.

Sky Sports cameras captured the humorous moment Eric Bailly handed his Manchester United team-mate Nemanja Matic a note from Mourinho.

The note presumably contained a few words, maybe even a diagram, highlighting what Mourinho wanted to see from Matic in midfield.

It probably wouldn't have given too much away, but it seems Willian desperately wanted to take a peek anyway, which Matic was reluctant to let him to do.

What followed was the Brazilian momentarily chasing the Red Devils star as he read the note, attempting to peer over his shoulder while laughing cheekily. Brilliant.
