Manchester United’s Liam Miller dead at 36: David Beckham and Rio Ferdinand lead tributes as footballer dies following cancer battle


Liam Miller, who started his career at Celtic in 2000 before moving to Manchester United four years later, sadly passed away following a battle with cancer. 
His first club, Celtic, said they were "deeply saddened" with the heartbreaking news,  after the young star lost his battle with pancreatic cancer after treatment in the USA and at home in Cork. 
The dad of three, who also played for Leeds and Sunderland, died just four days before his 37th birthday.

David Beckham lead the tributes for the young star, writing alongside an image of him: "Our thoughts are with Liam’s family .. Rest In Peace."
Rio Ferdinand added: "Waking up to the news that my old @manchesterunited teammate Liam Miller has passed away. Such tragic news... my thoughts go out to his family."
His first club, Celtic, Tweeted: "CelticFC is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former midfielder Liam Miller. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time. RIP Liam, YNWA."

Danny Higginbotham, a former Sunderland team-mate, added: "Devastating news. My thoughts are with his family."
Mark Burchill, who also played with Miller at Celtic, tweeted: "Can't believe my old team-mate Liam Miller has passed away today. 
"Taken far too soon. Horrific news. Thoughts and prayers with his family at this time."

Miller helped Celtic achieve the Scottish title in 2003-04, before he moved over to Manchester United.
He went on to make 22 appearances for the club before spending time on loan at Leeds, and then moving to Sunderland.
