Kim Kardashian West, who has adorned the cover of hundreds of magazines throughout her lifetime, has sparked controversy after she appeared on the front of Vogue India on two different covers for the March addition.
And while she did receive some praise for her stunning cover, some took to social media to share their sheer frustration that the brand didn’t represent women specifically from India.
No shade on the Kardashians.. but like y’all seriously couldn’t find an INDIAN for the cover? First Kendall & now Kim? @VOGUEIndia
Some people tweeted about how #VogueIndia should be featuring actual Indian women on their cover, and others came to Kim’s defense in saying featuring international stars is a once in a while thing.
people who are hating on @VOGUEIndia for their select international cover stars every once in a while really don’t understand how magazines work
What do y’all think? Are people up in arms for no reason because it’s #Kim, or are their frustrations completely valid?
I can’t believe @VOGUEIndia featured Kim Kardashian on their cover as if we don’t see her featured on a different magazine every day. India’s vogue should embrace and feature their own south Asian women instead of choosing someone from pop culture
The fashion industry loves to preach about the importance of diversity & the efforts made towards it but then @VOGUEIndia will go & put Kim K on its cover
They put brown women on the cover all the time...........they get an international star on the cover once in a blue moon
No shade on the Kardashians.. but like y’all seriously couldn’t find an INDIAN for the cover? First Kendall & now Kim? @VOGUEIndia
They literally put international woman once in a blue moon lol it’s not that deep sis pic.twitter.com/b1RBgsWy8k
While Vogue India are yet to respond to the controversy, they previously replied to similar backlash when Kendall Jenner appeared on the cover for the brand’s 10 year anniversary.
"Statistically, 90 percent of our covers are Indian! And we are proud of that," the brand said last year.
"We are Vogue, an international brand, and we want to give the love back by featuring some of the best international celebrities on our covers. Occasionally!"
It comes after Kim, who shares North, Saint and Chicago with Kanye West, shared the first baby picture of her newborn tot on Instagram.
