Logan Paul isn't the only guilty party in this controversy.
The YouTube star was hit with an immense amount of criticism when he uploaded a video of an apparent suicide victim. While the internet sensation has apologized a couple times for the insensitive producing choice, many are calling for Paul's 15 million+ subscribed account to be pulled from the video sharing site.
However, others are dragging YT for allowing the disturbing content to be uploaded in the first place. Not to mention, YouTube allowed the vid to be featured in the trending section of the site. In fact, it was Logan, not the company that took down the footage.
Internet users reacted:
🛑RETWEET THIS FOR @YouTube to make a change. Youtube CANNOT allow disgusting, horrifying content like what Logan Paul did. He not only used the dead suicide victims body in his thumbnail, but zooms in on the victims hands & pockets & makes heartless jokes! This is unacceptable!— Kandee Johnson (@kandeejohnson) January 2, 2018
logan paul exploiting a suicide victim in Japan to the tune of 6M+ views while youtube demonetizes students protesting in Iran is a perfect example of what a sociopathic garbage fire youtube has become. this industry has no soul left.— Laci Green (@gogreen18) January 2, 2018
byeee. 👋
Logan Paul jokes over the dead body of a suicide victim for 15 minutes, and @YouTube is fine with it. But catch somebody's Beyoncé ringtone going off in the background of your vacation video for a few seconds, and they're all over that shit.— Kristian Bland, unreliable narrator (@unclejeet) January 2, 2018
What a time to be alive.
Very disappointed in @YouTube. Logan Paul should have never even had the time to take down his own video.— Allochii (@AllochiiOcarina) January 2, 2018
YouTube only made the situation worse when they offered up a non-apology to the situation. They wrote:
"Our hearts go out to the family of the person featured in the video. YouTube prohibits violent or gory content posted in a shocking, sensational or disrespectful manner. If a video is graphic, it can only remain on the site when supported by appropriate educational or documentary information and in some cases it will be age-gated. We partner with safety groups such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to provide educational resources that are incorporated in our YouTube Safety Center."
What a whack response!! Although YouTube has said that Logan's video violated its policies, it's currently unclear if the company placed a strike on his channel. Ugh.
Understandably, we aren't the only ones infuriated by YT's lame response to this v v v serious scandal. People reacted on Twitter:logan paul posted a video featuring a literal dead man and it gets PROMOTED by youtube, yet today EVERY video I’ve made in the last 3months has been demonetised? lmaooooowhydoIbother pic.twitter.com/zypZmFGRYm— tom (@tom_harlock) January 2, 2018
Hi @YouTube! This statement is horrible! Excited to be canceling my YouTube Red subscription! https://t.co/5SF7kaDwbV— Alex Boniello (@AlexBoniello) January 2, 2018
Pathetic statement from @TeamYouTube. You demonetize most of my content within minutes of setting it live yet you allowed a video containing someone’s dead body hanging from a tree to be up for a full day- it even made it to trending... 6.5M people saw it. DO BETTER @YOUTUBE pic.twitter.com/B8UQQfFZOY— Kendall Rae💫 (@KendallRaeOnYT) January 2, 2018
youtube promoted Logan Paul's video and let it on to the top 10 on the trending page while creators creating creative and original content are getting discouraged and demonitized because of them saying 'shit', @YouTube wus good— lew (@lookingforlewys) January 2, 2018
"Who is Logan Paul?" I asked.— Derek Haas (@derekhaas) January 2, 2018
"You don't know but your kids will," they said.
"Who is Logan Paul?" I asked my kids.
"Some idiot on youtube," my kids replied.
True story.
I’m going to record a video of the death of Logan Paul’s YouTube “career” and just laugh and laugh.— Brandon Cloud (@theclobra) January 2, 2018
YouTube's statement on the Logan Paul debacle, which is pretty standard YouTube-ese: vague, irrelevant to the situation, and offering no details on how YouTube plans to handle it. pic.twitter.com/mLCUF3qSC3— Nash - Anbay ethay Azisnay (@Nash076) January 2, 2018
We think both Logan and those who run YouTube need to take a hard look at themselves and figure out how to be better…
