The only person that can answer yes to that question is Mariah Carey, 46, as it turns out her Christmas banger All I Want For Christmas Is You is still making quite the tidy sum for the American singer all these years later. We’re not all that surprised, to be fair – we’ve only heard the tune spun on average 26 times a day since 1 December.
Think about the royalties! The Economist has done some digging, though, and discovered the enduring earning of the tune that was, this year, the most streamed Christmas song globally on Spotify with 210 million streams. According to the website, since its release in 1994, it’s earned over £44.8 million ($60 million).
That’s an average of £1.9 million per year (Per. Year.). That’s a lot of diamante bodysuits. Not bad for a song that was reportedly written by Mariah’s collaborator Walter Afanasieff in 15 minutes, eh?
